June 2012

Saturday June 2 at 9am Volunteers gathered at the Shenandoah River Park for the annual Clean The Bay Day.

May 2012

May 18th the Shenandoah PTA held their spring carnival and held a male beauty pageant.

On May 19th the Shenandoah River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored a program on the War of 1812 at Stevens Cottage.

May 20th the Memorial Day Pageant was held at the Shenandoah Community / Recreation Center.

Shenandoah Beautification Committee redesigned and planted new flowers and bushes in the triangle at the intersection of Maryland Avenue and First Street.

Shenandoah Heritage Center Volunteers sponsors the monthly cruz-in on First Street, from May to October.

Keith Sampson sanded and prepped the cannon at the school house. Keith and his wife Dee then painted the cannon, and then the newly rebuilt wheels were put in place.

Shenandoah Beautification Committee planted bushes and trees at the new Veterans Park on Virginia Avenue.

Shenandoah Heritage Center and town volunteers hosted the fifteenth annual Memorial Day ceremony, Festival and Parade.

Shenandoah Volunteer firemen held a carnival and manned the food booth.

On May 25th town volunteers presented the dedication of Veterans Park on Virginia Avenue.

Local boy scouts held their annual flag retirement ceremony at the new veteran's park on Virginia Avenue.

 

April 2012

Volunteers with the Shenandoah Heritage Center hosted a dinner at the historic Stevens Cottage on Maryland Avenue.

Gary Patterson held another Business Technology Seminar this month at the town Computer Center on Second Street.

March 2012

The Page Valley Community Tennis Association is sponsoring Friday Tennis Socials. (March through September).

The 3rd Annual Lois Comer Memorial Run/Walk was held on Saturday, March 24th. More than 100 people participated with the proceeds benefiting a scholarship for a Page County High School Senior.

January 2012

Page Valley Community Tennis Association was named the 2011 Tennis Association of the Year by the United States Tennis Association.

December 2011

Annual Christmas Tree lighting Ceremony at Big Gem Park, put on by volunteers from Shenandoah Indians, Shenandoah Beautification Committee, Santa was delivered by the Shenandoah Fire Department.

Shenandoah Beautification Committee also decorated Big Gem with Christmas bows and lights.

Ashlar Masonic Lodge 125 is sponsored a Virginia Child Identification Program on Saturday, May 28th at 9 a.m. at the Shenandoah Elementary School. There was no age limit (Alzheimer or other adults may participate too). It is free of charge to participants who will receive a brief recorded interview; digital photographs; fingerprints



April 2011

  1. On April 9th Volunteers with the Shenandoah Recreation League held their opening day ceremony.
  2. On April 9th, The Shenandoah Heritage Center held its 2nd annual Lois Jean Comer Back Road Challenge 5K run in honor and memory of Lois Jean Comer.
  3. Shenandoah VFW Post 8613 had a wonderful Easter egg hunt on April 23rd. plenty of eggs were found by both age groups. Many door prizes given out and refreshments were served.
  4. The first Cruz-in of the year was held on First Street on April 29th. Organized by the Shenandoah Heritage Center.

 

 

January 2011

  • The Shenandoah Hardware sponsored another Project Firewood on January 15th with a delivery date of January 15 & 16.

December 2010

  • The Shenandoah Hardware sponsored Project Firewood on December 4th and 5th. Volunteers cut, split and delivered free firewood to needy families in Page and Rockingham counties. This is the second year in a row that the Shenandoah Hardware has sponsored this project.
  • Shenandoah Beta Sigma Phi Chapter members held an old fashioned lamplight dinner at Shenandoah's historic Stevens Cottage. Proceeds from the dinner will go toward Relay For Life and a scholarship fund.
  • The Shenandoah Beautification Committee sold handmade bows for display at the Big Gem Park during the holidays. Proceeds to benefit the committee's beautification efforts around town.
  • On December 10th, town residents and volunteers gathered at Big Gem Park for the annual tree lighting ceremony. The Christ United Methodist Church members sang Christmas carols, and the Shenandoah Beautification members read the names of this year's memory Bows. The Shenandoah Indians provided hot chocolate, marshmallows, and hotdogs. Santa was on hand to hand out gifts provided by the Town Recreation Department.
  • Shenandoah Page One collected pennies to help purchase Christmas gifts for needy children in the area.
  • The Shenandoah Lions Club held its 45th annual Christmas Cheer project to help needy families to receive food, clothing and toys for the holiday season.

November 2010

  • Members of the Shenandoah Crafters Association held their annual craft show in the Shenandoah Elementary School on November 6 & 7.
  • Members of the Shenandoah VFW Post 8613 prepared Thanksgiving dinner on November 25 for local Veterans, their family members and anyone else that wanted a warm meal.
  • A free business seminar was held in the Shenandoah Computer Center. Experts assisted visitors in setting up a logo, web banner, Facebook account and instant website for their business owners.

October 2010

  • The Page Valley Community Tennis Association put together a Terror trail at Big Gem Park. It was such a success that they are planning on doing it again next year.

  • The Page Valley Community Tennis Association hosted a Summer Slam tennis tournament August 7th & 14th
  • The Page Valley Community Tennis Association held a Quick Start tennis clinic at the Shenandoah Tennis courts on Saturday August 14 from 10am to 1:30pm.
  • The Shenandoah Heritage Center hosted 2010 Cruz in to Shenandoah Virginia on August 27th. The event took place along First Street.

July 2010

  • Members of the Shenandoah Heritage Center sponsored a 5-Mile Riverfront Run on Saturday, July 10 at 7:30 am. There were 50 runners and 10 walkers.

  • Clean the Bay Day. Volunteers got together and cleaned up trash along the banks of the Shenandoah River.
  • A 5th Grade Class the Shenandoah Elementary planted trees at Scout Park.
  • The Shenandoah Heritage Center hosted 2010 Cruz in to Shenandoah Virginia on June 25th. The event took place along First Street.

May 2010

Memorial Day:

  • Friday night the local Boy Scouts held their 2nd annual flag retirement ceremony at the Wig Wam Village.
  • Volunteers prepared another great Memorial Day Ceremony at the Avis O. Comer VFW Post 8613.
  • Volunteers from the Shenandoah Heritage Association prepared the Memorial Day VIP luncheon at the historic Stevens Cottage.
  • Volunteers organized and put together another great parade to include antique cars from the car show.
  • Volunteers had great participation at this year's dog show.
  • Volunteers from the Shenandoah Indians hand delivered Rebuilding Our Stadium brochures and information to local residents inside the town corporate limits.
  • A Business seminar was held at the Shenandoah Community Center.

April 2010

  • April 12-19 The Shenandoah Beautification Committee participated in the Take Pride in Page County week cleanup.
  • Mayor Lucas read to a group of Elementary age Children at Grove Hill Elementary School.
  • Relay for Life walk was held April 23 at the Shenandoah Elementary School.
  • JMU Crew Club volunteers were busy around town this month, they help clean up the river Park, Bike Trail, and repaired a sign at Scout Park.
  • The Page Valley Tennis Association started a tennis league on April 24th.
  • The Shenandoah Heritage Center held a 5-K run and 2 mile walk and started the Lois Comer Scholarship Fund in memory of Lois Comer. The scholarship will be given to a graduating senior from Page County High School each year.
