On Sunday August 19, 2018 the Shenandoah Indians traveled to Strasburg to play the Woodstock Raiders at First Bank Park for the Apple Valley Baseball League (AVBL) Championship. The Indians won 12-10. The Indians jumped out to an early lead in the 1st inning, and never trailed throughout the game.
The Raiders lost their leadoff batter in the bottom of the 1st inning, as he was ejected from the game due to un sportsman like conduct after striking out. Afterwards, the Raiders coach and AVBL Commissioner Craig Orndorff come into the game and took the position at first base. The Raiders stayed competitive throughout the game and made it a very interesting game, especially in the bottom of the 9th when they scored 6 runs to come within 2 runs from tying the game.
Cole Lokey hit a two run homer for Shenandoah in the top of the 9th inning and received the team Most Valuable Player Award. This year the Indians manager was Bobby Roberts and assistant coaches were Barry Ecroyd & Greg Johnson. An impressive first year for all three gentlemen! Equally impressive is the fact that the Shenandoah Indians have advanced to the Apple Valley League Championship game for the past four consecutive years and winning the championship in 2015 & 2018.
