The Shenandoah South End Convenience Store located at 705 South Third Street in Shenandoah, shut down on

December 31, 2022 and was managed by Karla Purdham. We drove by this property this week and saw that Holtzman’s crew was removing from the property the gas & kerosene pumps, and awning.  From the Valley Trail dated January 28, 2023 “According to owner karla Purdham due to COVID conditions and unforeseen events the store unfortunately had to discontinue operations after 12 years of service to the community. Karla would like to thank all of her loyal customers that patronized the business for so many years.”

Page County Geographic Information System (GIS) website dated June 2022 showed the building was built in 1943 and is owned by Shenandoah Old Store LLC.

This gas station on the south end of town has had many owners over the years to include Helen Glenn, Wayne Comer, Williard Comer, Joanne Shifflett (Bakery) Charles Grunewald, Koko and Karla Purdham.

It is unknown at the current time what the owners of this property will be doing with this building. Once we find out how the building will be used, we will update this article.

In the book Shenandoah The Thomas family Collection it has a picture that shows the last pay phone in Shenandoah at the South End Convenience Store. Learn more about this book from the links provided below.
