On Saturday evening June 9th 2018 the Shenandoah Community lined up along Highway 340 to welcome home the Page County High School Softball and Baseball teams. Both teams had just won State Championships just earlier in the day.

The Page County High School Baseball Team beat Virginia High 5-4 in Saturday’s Virginia High School League Class 2 Baseball State Champion game in Radford. Freshman left-handed pitcher T.R. Williams threw a complete game and the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab the lead and hold for the win. The Panthers captured program’s second state title-their first being in 2011. They ended the season on a 25 game winning streak for a final record of 27-1.

The Page County High School Softball team claimed its third state title in the last five years as the Panthers defeated Richlands 3-0, to win the Class 2A State Championship. The lady Panthers did not allow a single run in its three state tournament games. They finished the season with a final record of 23-3.

On their trip back home, the Panther convey was escorted thru the town of Elkton by Elkton Volunteer Fire Company 30 and they stayed in the convey all the way thru Shenandoah.

Also escorting the Boys and Girls back to school were Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company 70, Stanley Volunteer Fire Company 24, Shenandoah Volunteer Rescue EV1, Page County Sheriff’s Department, Shenandoah Volunteer Fire & Rescue vehicle and family and friends that traveled to Radford with the teams.

The fans lined both sides of highway 340 in Shenandoah cheering and waving banners as the teams passed by. Banners, posters and blue and white ribbons were displayed along the parade route. There were some cleaver posters that were displayed in Shenandoah to include one that read State Champ Highway X2.

This was a very special occasion as it may have been the first time in Page County High School history that state titles were won for baseball and softball in the same year!

Escorting winning high school Championship Teams thru town has become a tradition in recent years. In addition to high school teams, the Shenandoah Girls Softball team was also escorted thru town after winning the 2016 Babe Ruth World Series Championship game in Florida.
