On Sunday July 30, 2017 The Shenandoah Indians baseball team played in the Apple Valley Baseball League Championship game against the Rappahannock Monarchs at Highland School in Warrenton Va. The Indians lost 4-7. The Indians jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the 1st inning. After the 2nd inning the game was tied at 3. Rappahannock went up by one run in bottom of 3rd. Shenandoah scored one more run in the top of the 7th tying the game at 4. At the bottom of the 7th Rappahannock scored 3 more runs and the Indians never could make up the 3 run deficit. Shenandoah’s First Baseman Greg Johnson was involved in a collision at first base in the bottom of 4th and had to be taken out of the game. A few plays later, Shenandoah’s David Comer pulled off a hidden ball trick and tagged out the runner at second base! See picture below, the runner is in a state of shock, like what just happened? Manager Tim Hall accepted the Runner up trophy from Commissioner Craig Orndorff. Commissioner Orndorff also presented David Comer with the MVP plaque for Shenandoah. This was David Comer’s last game as a Shenandoah Indian as he is hanging up his cleats and retiring from baseball after 15 years with the Indians. Shenandoah’s Mayor Clinton Lucas and family made the hour and half drive and was on hand to watch the Indians play.
