As you may know, Shenandoah Newz is hosted not by paid staff, but by two volunteers that live in town. We started Shenandoah Newz to spread all positive aspects of the local area and especially items of interest about our home town of Shenandoah. With that being said, I would like to share a story of how the motivation and dedication of one individual has been embraced by another family member. If you are not aware of how Shenandoah Newz cohost Kirk Comer brought tennis back to Shenandoah, please read the following Facebook post written by his daughter Katlin Comer. This is one example of how volunteers have made a positive difference in our town and those that live here. Thank you Kirk & Katlin!

Katlin Comer: Almost ten years ago I started nagging my dad to help me start a high school tennis team. After two years, my sister and I were allowed to enter the Shenandoah district tournament as the bottom seeds. Finally, after four years of begging the school board we were able to start a team in spring of 2011. My sister and I convinced our friends to join our team, ending up with just enough to have a team (8 people). Fast forward five years, here I am looking at a group of 20+ girls interested in something that not so long ago no one cared about. My dad, Kirk Comer, is totally awesome for pushing so hard for something I wanted. Now, it's my turn to be on the other side of the fence, helping to coach these girls!
