Have you heard of the latest craze called Pickleball!? It's the fastest growing sport according to NBC News and locally there is a strong base of players in Rockingham and Augusta Counties and now its coming to Page County! In a nutshell Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two, three, or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net.

What:

Pickleball Open Courts

Where:

Page County High School Gymnasium

Who:

Any high school student to senior citizen is welcome to play. (Don't worry. We will show you how to play.)

When:

The following Saturdays from 7pm to 9pm

1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/17, 2/24, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31

Why:

Because it's only $1 for high school and college students.

Because it's only $3 for everyone else.

Because we have lots of courts.

Because we have all the equipment needed to play.

Because Mrs. Brumfield at PCHS says it's a cool sport.

Because it's a cheap date and you are cheap.

Because it's laid back and low stress.

Because all ages can enjoy playing.

Because you stay in the kitchen too much.

Because you will laugh.

Because you socialize with real people instead of a digital screen.

Because it would be nice to know what a pickleball looks like.

Because it's the fastest growing sport according to NBC News.

Because it's a positive kind of addiction.

Contact: Kirk at 540-742-1323 but really no need to contact anyone.

Positive people just show up and play. Negative people please go somewhere else.

All you need to bring is yourself and a pair of sneakers!

Subject: Pickleball at Page County High School

Hi All,

As many of you are aware Valley Tennis has been working with Page County High School to offer pickleball on Saturday nights as a positive activity on Saturday nights. Attached is a flyer we can begin sharing. Do not post this flyer in Page County Public Schools until we get school board approval(since we are not a high school organization) but feel free to post the flyer anywhere else or email to whomever you wish.

Some things that are not on the flyer that I want to share with you.

  • I would like to have someone different each week to collect player fees at a table we will set up so if you are willing to monitor the table for one night please let me know. You can still play... you would just need to make sure everyone that comes in pays their fee. We will also have a simple liability and information form that all new players need to complete before they can play. Here is a link where I will post the signup sheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eZtxxgtwCkGqDkjltp_Ms_rV-5re55z904YbVTHM4sw/edit?usp=sharing
  • I have measured the gym and we can easily fit 6 tennis courts in the gym with at least 9 feet around all sides of each court. We could do 8 courts if needed with 4 feet on each side of the court.
  • We have to roll down painters tape for each court. This does not take long. The painters tape has to be removed at the end of each night.
  • Valley Tennis has purchased two pickleball nets. The PCHS tennis team has two tennis nets we can borrow. I'll ask the Harrisonburg Pickleball group if they can loan us some nets on Saturday nights in case we need them.
  • Valley Tennis has also purchased 8 paddles and will purchase more paddles and nets if needed. Valley Tennis will also supply balls, painters tape and tape measures.
  • I'm honestly not sure how pickleball will go in Page County but there is only one way to find out and that's to offer it and see what happens. There is a strong base of players in Rockingham and Augusta Counties that may be willing to travel to Page County to play as well.
  • The school can cancel pickleball on any night for a school function. In this case I will update the Valley Tennis website www.pvcta.usta.com and send out emails to those that have joined the Valley Tennis email list. To sign up for the emails click on the following link. http://webs.us9.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=52d4dca25739e971e162097fe&id=25959a196c
  • Proceeds will go to Valley Tennis to cover pickleball equipment, insurance, incorporation and association fees.

Feel free to start sharing the attached flyer with friends, co-workers, groups, etc. Once the school board has approved a flyer I will send the flyer to all schools to share with teachers, coaches and high school students interested in participating.

We hope this positive activity goes well for our community!

Thanks!,

Kirk
