Growing up in Shenandoah there are some landmarks that are still around today, that when we see them it will take us back in time. For instance, the old rock wall on Junior Avenue. Many of us remember seeing it as we walked to the Shenandoah Memorial Stadium to watch the Valley or County League baseball games.
One landmark that hasn’t changed much is the railroad arches. Many of us remember seeing them as we walked down to the river to swim or fish. How many of you blow your horn for your kids as you drive thru the tunnel?
For those of us that that used to walk to the Shenandoah Elementary School, we often wondered who put those stars in the wall at the Roudabush house at the intersection of Third Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
How many of you remember seeing the Little Jerusalem wall as you walked or rode your bike to or from Comers Gas Station on Maryland Avenue?
What about the unique house with the red roof on Seventh Street? Did you know that this house was a kit that was sold in the Sears Roebuck catalog?
The Cannon on the School House wall has been around since 1934. For those of us that went to school at Shenandoah Elementary School, we saw it as we played on the swings or slid down the long metal sliding board. Others sat on the wall in front of the cannon and watched the traffic as it goes by.
