The Shenandoah High School Alumni Association held its 78th annual banquet on Saturday May 6, 2017 at the Shenandoah Elementary School (Formerly the High School). The reception and social hour started at 5pm in the school cafeteria. The banquet started at 6pm and was held in the school gymnasium and was catered by Rutz’s Backyard BBQ. Rather than honoring graduating classes in 10 year increments, as has been done in the past, the alumni board decided to make it every five years. The starting point for tonight’s celebration was the class of 1937. At 98 Beatrice Kite Austin is the only surviving member of that class. Other honored classes were 1942, 1947, 1952 and 1957 from Shenandoah High School and 1962 from Page County High School. Charles Grunewald from Charles Grunewald Auctions was on hand and auctioned off items that will help fund the annual Scholarship for a graduating senior at Page County High School. Decorations were accomplished by Dot Pendley, Wilson Kite and Joyce Morris. The Shenandoah High School Alumni Association was formed in 1939 and is the oldest in the State of Virginia, 1939-2017.
