On January 16, 2019, the Town of Shenandoah upgraded their obsolete telephone system. The new system will save taxpayer dollars and was a necessary upgrade in advance of providing our customers with an option to make payments by phone. Phone and online payment options will be available in the coming weeks.

In 1986, when Town Hall relocated to the old bank building, the existing telephone equipment and wiring were in place. The last time the telephones were replaced was in 1998. This aging system and outdated phones had been causing issues for some time (static on lines, not receiving calls from landlines, etc.). The equipment was too old to repair. In early 2018, the Town received quotes on replacing the equipment, wiring and telephones. The lowest quote was almost $5,800!

With the cost being so high, the Town looked for a solution that would provide reliable phone service that met all of its needs and found Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) was the most cost effective. By signing a contract with the Town's Internet Service Provider, the phones and necessary Internet upgrades were provided at NO cost to the Town. The installation was easy, completed in just over an hour at a cost of $100. In addition, the Town will save over $1,000 per year for telephone service.
