The town of Shenandoah used to have several gas stations scattered around town. There was Helen Glenn’s station, Hoot Gibson Service station, Gays Amoco, and Sinclair Gas Station just to name a few.

There was one more station commonly called Imps gas station. This building was located on Route 340 North, on the right-hand side of the road besides JR’s Tire Center. This small building was torn down on Friday October 11, 2024 by Skyline Concrete and Construction from Elkton Virginia. The building had been damaged by a vehicle in late September of this year.

From the January 8, 1953 edition of the Page News and Courier we read “City Service Station Sold- The City Service Station has been purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Esmond Miller, who will conduct the business, the station was sold by I. L. Melton, who had bought it several months ago.”

From the August 18, 1955 edition of the Page News and Courier we read “City Service Station Robbed - The City Service Station, operated by Mr. and Mrs. Esmond Miller, was broken into Saturday night and robbed of many cigarettes and other items. Chief of Police, W. H. Good arrested several youths from Greenwood on Tuesday and recovered most of the money. About two weeks ago the home of Mr. and Mrs. Esmond Miller was broken into and a watch, knife and other valuable articles were stolen.”

Eastwood. The station is located on Fourth Street opposite the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. The building is owned by Mrs. Clarence Shuler.”
