Wow, 50 years ago this week plans were under way for a new fire department building. From the below article it stated this new building was expected to cost $75,000 and at that time they had only three pieces of equipment! This building is still the home of our Volunteer Fire Department. In the future if a new facility is needed, an area in Big Gem Park has been reserved for an Emergency Services building. Attached is a picture showing our current two story fire station on Pennsylvania Avenue.

From the January 19, 2017 edition of the Page News and Courier in the Yesteryears section, we found this article. It was dated January 19, 1967. "Work is expected to begin early this spring on the Shenandoah Fire Department’s new building. It will be located on a lot recently purchased by the department at the corner of Second Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The building committee is working on the plans for the new fire house. A goal of $75,000 has been set for the new structure. At present the Shenandoah Fire Department is housed in the Town Hall, which is considered inadequate for their three pieces of equipment."
