Beginning November 29, 2021, the Town of Shenandoah’s meter reading system is being upgraded to
radio-read meters. The work is being done by Vanguard Utility Service, Inc. Technicians from Vanguard will be working in Town for approximately six weeks to transition the existing meters to the new system. In most cases, the meter will NOT be replaced, only modified with the equipment. Less than 15% of the existing meters will need to be replaced with a brand-new meter.
Vanguard technicians will be working throughout the Town, following the same routes used by Public Works each month. They will be knocking on doors prior to the change-out or leaving door hangers with contact information if no one is at home.
This upgrade will improve our meter reading system in several ways: readings will be more accurate, the Town will be able to pinpoint when spikes in usage occur if the reading for the month is higher than normal, and the time and manpower it takes to read the meters each month will be reduced.
Every effort will be made to make this as seamless as possible, however, there are likely be some challenges along the way. We ask our customers to be patient during the transition.
