We have uncovered a small part of Shenandoah’s past that hasn’t been documented much.
On 12th Street, now days called Comer Lane there used to be a small grocery store. The store was Called Sunny’s Grocery. It is believed that the store was built around 1948 by Bob Comer. Ester Comer opened and ran the store. We hear that it didn’t have a cash register, that Ester would total the cost in her head! After the store went out of business around 1950, the building was home to Mary and LeRay "Sunny" Comer, then it became a woodshop, where Bob Comer would refinish furniture.
The white block building is still standing today. It is on the right side of Comers Lane, just down the street coming from direction of current Page One building.
