The picnic shelter has been completed at Big Gem Park, and 15 picnic tables have been placed under the shelter. The shelter has lights and electrical outlets. New rental information signs have been placed in the park informing visitors to dial 652-8164 to reserve the shelter. Currently it cost $25 to rent the shelter, but Shenandoah Town Council will set a permanent fee at a later date. Outdoor grills and another portable toilet will be placed near the shelter. The shelter is quickly becoming a hot item in the park, because before the shelter had been completed, it had been reserved for one day in August!

Visitors to the park will also notice that the ditches have been cleaned out to help with drainage issues.

Update: September 25th 2014-This shelter is rapidly becoming a very popular attraction in the park. Since the shelter opened in mid-July, it has been reserved 11 time so far!
