On Saturday May 28, The Town of Shenandoah held its 19th annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the VFW Post 8613. Mayor Clinton Lucas welcomed the large crowd to the morning’s ceremony. He welcomed the family of PFC Daniel David Gray, and spoke his short career in the United States Army. David was a 2013 graduate of Page County High School and passed away in March 14, 2016 in El Paso Texas while serving in the U.S. Army. Pastor Todd Stroupe gave the Invocation and Benediction. Students from the Shenandoah Elementary were on hand for the entire ceremony and performed two songs. Avis O. Comer VFW Post 8613 members raised the American Flag and performed Taps. The mayor’s daughter Monica Brewer sang the National Anthem, and his granddaughter Abby Brewer led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance. The mayor called members of all branches of the service, to assemble in front of the stage. The special guest speaker was U.S Marine Sgt. Russ Rodriguez. Mr. Rodriguez is a Shenandoah Elementary School teacher and was Grand Marshal of the parade. A wreath was place by the Veterans Memorial by Miss Memorial Day Queen & Mrs. Rockingham County Fair Queen.
