Well, another Summer has passed by and Fall is upon us. Vacations are over, the kids are back in school, and we're thinking about settling down for the Winter ahead. Or, are we? Do we really ever settle down? Not really. Most of us are probably already thinking about Christmas, and before that, Halloween and Thanksgiving. There just seems to be something to keep us busy all the time.

This brings me to the real purpose of my letter for this quarter. I have a question for you. Do you ever think of the importance of Veterans Day? Only one day in the entire year is dedicated to the men and women who, down through the years, have made it possible for all of us to be free and enjoy the things we do every day. You might think it's no big deal. Well, to me it is. It's huge! I think we need to take time to thank our Veterans for what they have done and continue to do.

Veterans Day is November 11, which falls on a Sunday this year. Most people will be off from work.

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ASK ALL THE CITIZENS OF OUR TOWN AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITY TO JOIN ME AND THE VICE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL AT OUR BEAUTIFUL VETERANS PARK AT 3:00 PM, TO SHOW OUR APPRECIATION FOR THE MEN AND WOMEN IN OUR AREA WHO HAVE MADE OUR SMALL TOWN AND COUNTRY A FREE AND PEACEFUL PLACE TO LIVE!

I hope to see all of you at Veterans Park on November 11 at 3 PM.

Sincerely,

Clinton O. Lucas, Jr., Mayor
