Update: November 8, 2012: Folks should be aware of that parking will be in short supply in our town on Sunday. Folks planning to attend the Veterans service at the new Veterans Park or craft show on First Street/museum at Town Hall, museum at Stevens Cottage, or just see the train, should plan to carpool and plan that they may have to walk a little to get to where they are going.
The town has sold 300 tickets for the short train trip, (All tickets have been sold out) which leaves town at 1 p.m. (passengers have to be here by 12:15 p.m.) and we will have 316 people getting off to visit our Town from the long trip from Roanoke.Parking is going to be available at the Shenandoah Elementary School (even inside the fence), behind the school, and the small gravel parking lot behind the school as well. Parking is also at the carnival field (weather permitting) and of course along Virginia Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue, etc.
First Street will be closed from the old mill building all the way to the tennis courts for the safety of the estimated 700 to 800 folks on First Street at one time on Sunday!

The train will come depart from Roanoke on the morning of Sunday, November 11th come to Shenandoah.
Once the passengers are unloaded in Shenandoah folks will have the opportunity to board the train in Shenandoah and ride the train from Shenandoah to Luray and return to Shenandoah for a small fee.
These tickets are on sale now at The Town Hall (See brochure below) .
The train will then be reloaded with the original passengers and return to Roanoke. For the few hours our train visitors are here they will find plenty to see and do -
* Shenandoah Heritage Center Members have already committed to having the cottage and caboose open for visitors.
* The Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad Members have already committed to cooking about 400+ meals for the train riders at just $12 a plate for a full tenderloin meal with drink and dessert.
* Town Hall museum will be open for the travelers to learn more about our Town.
* We would like the businesses open on or near First Street (walking distance) on this Sunday if possible.
* We are hoping to have some arts and crafters set up on First Street too.
* If any of the businesses in Town and/or non-profits desire, we could allow you to place a booth on First Street to sell your items that may be of interest to the travelers as well. Just let me know if you think this is something your business or non-profit would want to participate in.
* We hope to have something to honor Veterans for this event as well. I am certain Mayor Lucas would be more than willing to assist with anything to honor Veterans. Any thoughts on something to honor Veterans will be greatly appreciated. Keeping in mind the visitors have to time to eat with a little extra time to visit our community too and any event would have to happen on or very near First Street.
With everyone's cooperation and assistance Shenandoah made a great impression on the visitors in 2009 and I am positive we can do the same this time too.
More details to come later in the year.
Please pass this information on to anyone you think may be interested in either event and let me know if you have questions. Thanks! Juanita
