Shenandoah’s Nancy Karnes awarded the Mary Lee Bryant Volunteer Award at Luray Page County Chamber of Commerce 90th annual banquet that was held on Thursday November 3, 2016.
Named for its inaugural recipient in 2009, the evening’s final award the Mary Lee Bryant Volunteer Award- recognizes one community member each year who goes above and beyond. Bryant presented the award to Nancy Jo Karnes for her volunteerism through the Shenandoah Heritage Association and the Page County Public Education Foundation, as well as community efforts ranging from organizing summertime cruise-in events on First Street in Shenandoah to organizing fundraising efforts to benefit the town’s historic Stevens Cottage. Her main goal as a volunteer has always been to show a spirit of kindness to those attending the events she is a part of, said Bryant. It would be impossible to pay for all of the volunteer hours she puts into the community each year, and she truly does this work because of her love for the county and her desire to convey how great it is to live work and play here.
