The year was 2005 and three Shenandoah Boy Scouts from troop 8 earned their Eagle Scout ranking by completing projects in Shenandoah’s Big Gem Park. Joshua Gordon’s project was to build an 18 step stairway up to the gazebo. He finished his project in mid-November. Andy Wong built a bridge near the pond that leads over to the swing set area. Andy finished his project in December. E.J. Enterline built a rain garden a short distance away from the bridge that Andy Wong built. E.J. was awarded his Eagle Scout ranking on November 20. In addition to helping to improve Big Gem and the community, Gordon, Enterline and Wong said working on the property was educational. Each found ways to tie their project to the town’s unique history, weather it was utilizing railroad ties or native plants. Mr Phil Secrist, Jr., was Scoutmaster for Troop 8 in 2005.
